Grace Van Dien, known for her role in “Stranger Things,” disclosed that a movie producer had made unwelcome sexual advances towards her while on set. As a result, Van Dien has become more selective with her acting projects and has turned down four movie roles in the last two and a half weeks.
Instead, she has decided to prioritize earning money from Twitch, a live-streaming platform for gamers, where she has amassed 293,000 followers under the username @bluefille.
Despite some of her fans being disappointed, the 26-year-old actress acknowledged that she had declined several acting opportunities recently. She explained that her decision was based on her past negative experiences with some of the people she worked with on previous projects. Van Dien understands that her fans may be unhappy with her decision, but she believes it is the best choice for her well-being.
“He hired a girl that he was sleeping with, and then he had her ask me to have a threesome with them,” she said. “So, that’s my boss. And I didn’t, and I cried and I was so upset.” she continued.
“But when people are like, ‘How is streaming better for your mental health?’ That’s how. I get to stay inside my home and play video games, and I don’t have my boss asking me to have sex with him. That’s how this is better for my mental health”.
Grace Van Dien, whose father is a famous daytime soap actor Casper Van Dien and great-grandfather is Golden Age star Robert Mitchum, chose not to disclose the name of the production where she experienced unwanted sexual advances. However, she stated that she dealt with the situation appropriately.
Van Dien ended her statement:
“I told my management. My castmate, she was there with me and was like, ‘Did I just hear that correctly?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah.’ And she was like, ‘Want to go talk a walk?’ I was like, ‘Yeah.’ And we just had a miserable time. We cried a lot on that shoot.”
“That’s why I’m going to stick to streaming for a little bit, and I hope that’s not a huge wrench in your plans for me, but I’m happy here,” she continued. “And I’m developing my own projects, and I’m hoping that someone decides to fund them. Because then I can be in control of my own set, and I’m not going to ask my actors to sleep with me, so… that’s cool, right?”
